World Civil Defence Day
On March 1st, we celebrate World Civil Defence Day, established in 1990 by the General Assembly of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO). This day commemorates the entry into force of the ICDO Constitution, which formally established this intergovernmental organization in 1972.
The purpose of World Civil Defence Day is to raise public awareness of the role of civil defence in ensuring security during crisis situations. It emphasizes the importance of society's preparedness for emergencies such as natural disasters, accidents, and terrorist attacks. Civil defence is not only about the readiness of rescue services but also about the active involvement of citizens in self-protection, disaster prevention, and rapid response when needed.
This day is also an opportunity to recognize the contributions and dedication of individuals working in civil protection services. In many countries worldwide, including Poland, these services play a crucial role in responding to crises, combating natural disasters, providing assistance during mass incidents, and coordinating actions in the face of military threats.
